The data and statistics we use to make decisions come from the incidents North Dakota fire departments report. This incident information is also utilized by the entire state and the rest of the country. It helps us figure out where to put our resources and shows the people who control the money what's going on.

We're excited to share that incident reporting is on the rise! In 2019, only 50% of ND departments Reported. So far in 2023, that number is up to 80%! And there's still time to get 2023 incidents entered. In the past week, we've talked to five more departments that are ready to start reporting. In the coming weeks, we’ll be touching base with departments that reported in 2022 but not 2023 to see how we can help get them back on track.

We strongly encourage you to check the report on this page. We update it every month, and it’s the best way to verify your incidents are making it into NFIRS.

If you're reporting incidents using ER by ESO, they may not get into NFIRS as they should. The snip below shows what we see when we go into ER to move your reports to NFIRS. See the far-right column I've marked in red? Those are reports that are waiting for a final check before they're finished.

A graph showing submitted and non-submitted incident reports.

If you see this when you log into ER:

You’re close but not quite done! All that’s left is to review the incident. The same person who wrote the report can also review it, OR someone else can.

What you need is for those padlocks to turn green. Like this:

If you’re one of the departments that has gotten off track with your reporting or you’ve never done it, don’t be intimidated! There are options and we’re here to help. Give me a call and we’ll get it sorted out!
